Abstract

The city of Yogyakarta is an endemic area for Dengue Fever (DF) as one of the vector-borne diseases. Various vector control strategies have been carried out for this disease, including the use of synthetic insecticides. However, long-term and continuous use of insecticides, as well as uncontrolled dosing, can lead to resistance in mosquito populations. This study aims to examine the characteristics of breeding sites and the resistance status of Ae. aegypti mosquitoes from Sorosutan Sub-district against permethrin using the CDC Bottle Bioassay. Observations of breeding site characteristics and egg collection were conducted in 100 randomly selected households. Mosquito rearing and resistance testing were carried out at the Entomology and Vector Control Laboratory, Public Health Laboratory Center, Yogyakarta. The breeding site characteristics found consisted of open water bodies, with larvae most frequently found in plant vases and cement bathtubs, rainwater storage buckets, and used items (plastic packaging, jars). In Sorosutan Subdistrict, the Entomological Index shows a CI value of 23.33%, HI 37%, and BI 42%, indicating that this area has a high vector density. Resistance test results show that Ae. aegypti mosquitoes have developed resistance to permethrin at 1x dose (0.75μg/bottle) and 5x dose (3.75μg/bottle), a condition that potentially results in moderate to high disease transmission.
