Abstract

This study investigates the influence of spindle speed variation on the quality of nuts produced using a conventional lathe. The objective is to determine the optimal spindle speed that yields the best surface roughness, dimensional accuracy, and thread integrity. A quantitative experimental design was applied using realistic simulated machining data based on standard turning practices. Spindle speeds of 300 rpm, 600 rpm, and 900 rpm were tested while maintaining constant feed rate (0.2 mm/rev) and depth of cut (0.5 mm). Measurements were conducted using a micrometer and surface roughness tester. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA. The results indicate that spindle speed significantly affects both surface roughness and dimensional accuracy (p < 0.05). The 600 rpm configuration produced the most balanced results. These findings support machining parameter optimization in vocational and manufacturing contexts.
