Abstract

Career exploration is an important process that helps adolescents understand themselves, obtain career information, and consider future educational and occupational alternatives. This study examined the relationship between peer influence and future time perspective and career exploration among high school students. Using a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 212 12th-grade students at SMA Negeri 16 Semarang, Indonesia, selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used were the Career Exploration Scale (CES), Peer Influence Questionnaire, and Future Time Perspective Scale (FTPS). Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that peer influence and future time perspective significantly predicted career exploration, F(2,209) = 25.68, p < .001, explaining 19.7% of the variance (R² = .197). Peer influence was found to be a stronger predictor (B = 0.562, β = 0.333, p < .001) than future time perspective (B = 0.322, β = 0.185, p = .007). These findings highlight the importance of both social and individual factors in adolescents’ career exploration.
