Abstract

This study examined the contributions of transformational leadership and work discipline to the performance of personnel in the Indonesian Marine Corps. A mixed-methods approach with a concurrent triangulation design was employed, in which quantitative and qualitative data were collected simultaneously to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires administered to 315 Marines, whereas qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with key informants. The quantitative data were analyzed using multiple linear regression, while the qualitative data were examined through thematic coding and analysis with the assistance of NVivo 15. The results demonstrated that transformational leadership and work discipline each contributed significantly to Marine performance. Collectively, the two variables explained 66,3% of the variance in performance (R² = .663). The qualitative findings corroborated the quantitative results by identifying exemplary leadership, effective communication, and consistent discipline development as important factors supporting Marines’ motivation, duty awareness, and sense of responsibility. The integrated findings indicate that transformational leadership, accompanied by the continuous reinforcement of work discipline, plays an important role in supporting improved Marine performance. These findings provide an empirical basis for developing leadership and personnel-development policies within the Indonesian Marine Corps.
