Abstract

Background: The incidence of periodontitis is still quite high in Indonesia. One of the bacteria that cause periodontitis is Treponema denticola. Dayak onion (Eleutherine palmifolia (L.) Merr) is often used as herbal medicine because it contains secondary metabolites. Objectives: This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of dayak onion leaf and bulb extracts against the growth of Treponema denticola. Research Metodes: The dilution method was used to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Kill Concentration (MBC) of 96% ethanol extract with concentrations of 80 mg/ml, 40 mg/ml, 20 mg/ml, 10 mg/ml, and 5 mg/ml. Results: The results of the study on bulb extracts showed KHM value of 20 mg/ml where there was a very significant difference in each concentration (p = 0.007) and there was no KBM value, while leaf extracts there were no KHM and KBM values at all concentrations. Conclusion: Only dayak onion bulb extract showed bacteriostatic against Treponema denticola growth.
