Abstract

Schools are designed as safe spaces for student development, yet they are increasingly vulnerable to acts of violence. This study analyzes the social factors driving extreme adolescent violence in educational settings through the lens of counseling sociology, focusing on the high school bombing incident at SMAN 72 Jakarta. Employing a qualitative approach incorporating literature review and case study methodologies, the research investigates the interplay between adolescent social dynamics and aggressive behaviors. The findings reveal that extreme violent behavior in adolescents is not merely an isolated individual pathology, but rather a product of complex social interactions, including repeated experiences of bullying, social exclusion (ostracism) by peer groups, and deficient social support from family and school environments. Unaddressed psychological distress resulting from social isolation significantly heightens the risk of aggressive acts as a form of emotional displacement. From a counseling sociology perspective, this study highlights the vital strategic role of school counselors in delivering systemic psychosocial intervention, navigating student social relations, and constructing supportive educational environments to proactively prevent school-based violence.
