ABSTRACT Uneven opportunities for participation in Social Studies learning can become a problem when some students are more frequently involved, while others tend to remain passive in asking questions, answering, engaging in discussions, or showing enthusiasm. This condition was examined through the implementation of the Talking Stick learning model involving 30 eighth-grade students of Class VIII B at SMP Laboratorium UM, selected using a total sampling technique. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach with a one group pretest-posttest design. Changes in participation were observed through four indicators, while learning achievement was assessed using a 20-item multiple-choice test administered before and after the learning process. Following the implementation of the model, the distribution of participation shifted: the proportion of students in the passive category decreased from 46.67% to 6.67%, whereas the active category increased from 23.33% to 56.67%. At the same time, the mean learning achievement increased from 55.50 on the pretest to 87.50 on the posttest. The N-Gain score of 0.71 was classified as high. The difference between the two learning achievement scores was also statistically significant based on the Paired Samples T-Test, with a p-value < 0.001. These findings indicate that the turn-taking mechanism in Talking Stick has the potential to create more equitable student participation while supporting learning achievement in Social Studies.
