Abstract

The quality of  User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) plays an important role in improving the usability of educational websites, especially those designed for children. This study aims to evaluate and optimize the UI/UX of the Pintara Kids educational website by integrating Heuristic Evaluation (HE), System Usability Scale (SUS), and User-Centered Design (UCD). The research employed an Evaluative Design Research approach involving three usability evaluators for the Heuristic Evaluation and fifty respondents, consisting of parents and teachers as proxy users, for the SUS assessment. The initial evaluation identified several usability issues related to navigation, interface consistency, visual design, and feature accessibility. These findings were used as the basis for redesigning the interface through the UCD approach by developing wireframes, mockups, and a partial prototype. The redesigned prototype was subsequently re-evaluated using the same methods. The results indicate that the optimization successfully reduced usability problems and increased the SUS score from 65.75 to 83.47, indicating a significant improvement in usability and User Experience. The study demonstrates that integrating HE, SUS, and UCD provides an effective approach for evaluating and improving educational websites designed for children.
