Abstract

Beach Tourism Areas are defined as functional areas that are specifically operated for tourism purposes, utilizing the physical attractions of the beach and surrounding waters. Beach tourism is an activity carried out in the form of entertainment aimed at performing specific activities such as relaxing, recreation, and swimming. This study was conducted to analyze the suitability level of the area and the area's carrying capacity. The study was carried out from November 3 to December 3, 2025, at Ku Beach, Bacukiki Barat District, Parepare City. Data collection used direct observation methods by looking at 10 suitability parameters (Yulianda, 2019) and direct interviews by observing area carrying capacity parameters such as beach operational hours, beach utilization area, and the time visitors spend during tourism activities. The analysis results show that the IKW value at the research location, at stations 1 and 2, obtained an IKW value of 82,5% (S2), which generally falls into the Suitable category. At station 3, the IKW value was 86,7%, which generally falls into the Very Suitable category (S1). The average IKW value is 83,9%, which falls into the very suitable category, so the beach can be used as a recreational and swimming tourism beach even though the black sand beach type is less supportive of tourism activities. The Carrying Capacity Value (DKK) of the beach for recreational activities is that the optimal number of tourists that can be accommodated is 622 people/day with a utilization area of 5,184 m2, and for swimming activities, it is 864 people/day with a utilization area of 9,600 m2.
