Abstract

General Background Sustainable agricultural practices require innovative organic-based treatments to substitute synthetic fertilizers and enhance crop productivity. Specific Background The combined application of liquid organic fertilizer derived from pineapple peel and Trichoderma sp. serves as a promising biological approach to support the cultivation of cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens ORI 212 variety). Knowledge Gap Detailed interactive mechanisms between organic pineapple peel fertilizers and soil-inoculating microorganisms for specific horticultural crop parameters need further empirical investigation. Aims This study investigates the interactive effects of liquid organic fertilizer derived from pineapple peel and Trichoderma sp. on the vegetative growth and yield parameters of cayenne pepper. Results The findings reveal significant interaction effects on plant height, fruit weight, number of branches, number of leaves, flowering age, number of flowers, and number of fruits, while no significant effect was observed on stem diameter. Novelty This research demonstrates that integrating pineapple peel liquid organic fertilizer with Trichoderma sp. inoculants creates a synergistic biological mechanism that optimizes nutrient uptake and crop development. Implications These findings provide valuable insights and eco-friendly alternatives for agricultural practitioners seeking to improve crop yields and promote sustainable farming methods. Highlights: Plant height, fruit weight, number of branches, number of leaves, flowering age, number of flowers, and number of fruits exhibited significant improvements due to the combined application. Organic-based treatments offer a viable pathway to support sustainable agricultural practices and crop productivity. Interacting soil treatments optimize nutrient availability and plant development without relying on synthetic inputs.
