Abstract

Immersive technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) have transformed educational practices by creating interactive and experiential learning environments. Nevertheless, their implementation in Islamic Religious Education remains relatively unexplored. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of VR-based instruction in improving students’ understanding of Islamic history and enhancing meaningful religious learning experiences. A quasi-experimental design involving 186 secondary school students was employed. Students in the experimental group participated in VR-assisted learning activities featuring virtual tours of Islamic historical sites, simulations of Hajj rituals, and immersive explorations of Islamic civilization, while the control group received conventional instruction. Data were collected through achievement tests, motivation questionnaires, classroom observations, and interviews. The results indicate that VR significantly improves conceptual understanding, historical awareness, student engagement, and learning motivation. Students also reported greater emotional involvement and stronger connections with Islamic historical narratives. The novelty of this study is the development of an Immersive Islamic Learning Model that integrates virtual reality technology with experiential learning principles to strengthen cognitive, affective, and spiritual dimensions of Islamic Religious Education

Abstract

This study aims to develop a conceptual framework of adaptive Islamic educational leadership for school principals in responding to digital transformation. The study employs a qualitative library research method through systematic conceptual analysis and synthesis of literature on digital leadership, adaptive leadership, educational management, Islamic educational leadership, organizational transformation, teacher digital competence, and technology integration. The findings indicate that digital transformation requires school principals to move beyond conventional administrative functions toward strategic, pedagogical, technological, organizational, and ethical leadership. The proposed framework comprises eight interconnected competencies: digital vision, adaptive intelligence, pedagogical-digital leadership, collaborative empowerment, data-informed decision-making, innovation and change management, ethical-digital governance, and continuous professional learning. These competencies are integrated with Islamic moral-spiritual principles to ensure that technological transformation remains aligned with educational objectives, human development, ethical responsibility, and Islamic values. The novelty of this study lies in the formulation of an adaptive Islamic educational leadership framework that integrates digital and adaptive leadership perspectives with Islamic educational principles, positioning school principals as strategic agents of pedagogical, organizational, cultural, and ethical transformation. The framework demonstrates that digital transformation in Islamic educational institutions should be understood not merely as technology adoption but as a comprehensive transformation of leadership and educational practice.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate an integrated Smart Pesantren framework for strengthening the digital transformation of Islamic boarding schools while preserving their religious identity, cultural traditions, and educational values. The study employed a qualitative library research method through critical analysis and synthesis of recent scholarly literature on educational technology, digital transformation, pesantren digitalization, digital literacy, digital leadership, and Islamic education. The findings demonstrate that Smart Pesantren development requires the integration of six interrelated dimensions: digital infrastructure, digital pedagogy, digital governance, human digital competence, Islamic digital literacy, and data-informed institutional development. These dimensions indicate that technology can enhance learning accessibility, pedagogical effectiveness, administrative efficiency, institutional communication, Qur’anic learning, and educational services when supported by competent leadership, teacher readiness, adequate infrastructure, cybersecurity, ethical governance, and cultural compatibility. The novelty of this study lies in proposing an integrated Smart Pesantren framework that conceptualizes digital technology not as a substitute for pesantren traditions but as a strategic instrument for strengthening them. The framework integrates digital transformation with Islamic values, kyai leadership, santri development, educational quality, institutional intelligence, and sustainable learning ecosystems
