Abstract

The aim of the present research was to identify the levels of psychological variables (self-confidence and competition anxiety) and the accuracy of tackling among football goalkeepers in fut, and to reveal the nature of correlational relationships and the predictive ability (indicator) of these psychological variables in determining the level of skill tackling accuracy. The researcher adopted the descriptive approach using both relational and predictive methods. The main research sample consisted of (32) goalkeepers representing the clubs of the central region in the Iraqi Futsal League, who were selected by the comprehensive inventory method. The Sport Self-Confidence Scale (Vealey, 1986), the Sports Competition Anxiety Scale (Martens et al., 1990) with its cognitive and physical dimensions, in addition to the field tackle accuracy test (12 guided shots). The data were statistically processed by SPSS-25 using arithmetic media, T-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. The results showed that the guards had a high and significant level of self-confidence, and a low level of competition anxiety. Statistical treatments also revealed a positive and significant direct correlation between self-confidence and tackling accuracy (r = 0.781), and a significant inverse correlation with competition anxiety (r = -0.694). The regression model proved the high predictive power of the two psychological indicators, where self-confidence and competition anxiety explain (69.7%) of the total variation in the accuracy of tackling (R^2 = 0.697). The research recommends the integration of psychological preparation and self-confidence development training into the skill training programs for guards.

Abstract

The aim of the present research is to explore the predictive power of the dimensions of external causal attribution at the level of psychological burnout among futsal clubs (youth category) participating in the Iraqi league for the 2025-2026 sports season. The researcher used the descriptive approach with correlational and predictive methods as they are appropriate for the nature of the study. The sample included all 124 players from seven sports clubs, and 56 players were selected by stratified random method to build the final predictive model, and these players showed an extrinsic causal attribution pattern. The research included the use of a 21-item psychological burnout scale and a 32-item causal attribution scale, and their psychometric characteristics such as discriminatory truthfulness, internal consistency stability, and Jackson's sensitivity index were verified. The results showed that the players suffered from a psychological burnout level higher than the average by 65.16%. The emotional and mood aspect was the most prominent dimensions of this phenomenon. It was also shown that the pattern of external causal attribution was clearly controlled, especially in the dimensions of attribution to defeat and attribution of poor performance. The results of the gradual multiple regression analysis revealed a high predictive ability, as the dimensions of attribution of defeat and attribution of poor performance explained 65.0% of the total variation in psychological burnout. Based on these findings, the researcher recommended the importance of implementing counseling programs that focus on retraining on causal attribution and providing a psychological preparation specialist accompanying sports teams.
