Abstract

Introduction: type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease requiring long-them therapy. Geriatric patients are higher. risk of medication non-adherence due to cognitive decline, polypharmacy, and a lack of understanding regarding their therapy. Pharmacist counseling is a form of pharmaceutical service expected to improve patient adherence.Objective: to determine the effect of pharmacist counseling on medication adherence among geriatric patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Rowosari Community Health Center.Methods: this study used a one-group pretest-posttest design with 30 geriatric patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus selected by purposive sampling. Adherence was measured using the ARMS questionnaire before and after counseling. Analysis was performed using a paired t-test.Results: Before counseling, all respondents had a moderate level of adherence. After counseling, adherence increased, with 13.3% of respondents achieving high adherence. The mean ARMS score decreased from 16.60 to 14.23, with p = 0.000, indicating a significant difference
