Abstract

Digital technology is developing so rapidly that it has changed the pattern of mass communication, especially how students access information through social media. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of scrolling without verification as a digital information consumption behavior among students. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach involving 20 active students who were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and literature studies, then analyzed using data reduction techniques, power presentation and conclusion drawn. The results of the study show that students prefer to receive information encountered quickly without the need to verify the truth of the source. This is influenced by the ease of access and high exposure to digital content. In addition, students often read the information they get at a glance and focus on viral content on social media. This condition has an impact on the increasing potential for the spread of misinformation and the formation of inaccurate perceptions. Therefore, improving literacy and critical thinking skills needs to be done for students to be more selective in disseminating and receiving information. This research is expected to contribute to understanding student communication behavior and the importance of digital literacy in dealing with digital information flows.
