Abstract

This study aimed to examine the economic returns to sports clubs resulting from the implementation of the Iraqi Professional Football League. The study focused on four dimensions: economic returns from broadcasting rights, economic returns from sports sponsorship, financial support provided by the Iraqi Football Association to clubs participating in the Professional League, and economic returns from marketing the Professional League ,The researcher adopted the descriptive survey method because it was appropriate for the nature of the study. A purposive sample of 52 participants was selected, including 40 representatives from professional clubs (club presidents and secretaries-general) and 12 members of the Iraqi Football Association. A questionnaire was used as the main instrument for data collection, The main findings indicated that the popularity of football, the popularity of clubs, and the prominence of players increase the revenues generated from both direct and indirect broadcasting rights. The economic returns from broadcasting rights are invested in supporting club activities. The value of sports sponsorship contracts increases as the club’s fan base grows, while the financial returns from sports sponsorship contribute to improving services provided within sports clubs, The study recommends establishing clear criteria for distributing television broadcasting revenues among clubs and setting a fixed timetable to ensure that clubs receive their broadcasting rights payments on time.
