Abstract

This study examines the differences in perceptions between Muslim and non-Muslim cnsumers regarding halal certified food products and the factors that shape these views. Using a literature review with a descriptive qualitative approach, this study examines various sources related to halal certification, consumer behavior, and the development of the halal industry. The results indicate that the halal label has broad value, encompassing spiritual, social, economic, and managerial aspects. Muslim consumers generally view halal certification as a form of religious obedience, although the level of reliance varies depending on their knowledge and consumption experience. Meanwhile, on-Muslim konsumers view the halal label as an indicator of food quality and safety. Other findings reveal that halal certification increases consumer trust and industy competitiveness, supported by government regulations such as Law No. 33 of 2024. However, low literacy and low access to certification for MSMEs remain challenges. Overall, halal certification now serves as a universal quality standard that combines religious values and modern business principless in the development of the halal industry.
