Abstract

General Background Twenty-first-century education necessitates digital technology integration to foster critical thinking and conceptual mastery in mathematics. Specific Background Conventional teaching methods persistently dominate elementary mathematics, particularly concerning fractions, which require complex visual representation and conceptual reasoning. Knowledge Gap While interactive media shows promise, the development of web-based games explicitly combining gamification with a deep learning approach for elementary students remains highly limited. Aims This research develops and validates a culinary-themed web-based educational game utilizing a deep learning framework to build fourth-grade students' comprehension of fractions. Results Employing the ADDIE framework, the developed platform, Pizzeria Pecahan, achieved exceptional validation scores from subject matter experts (98.08%), media experts (89.62%), and educators (98.08%). Field implementation involving 30 students demonstrated a significant pedagogical shift, evidenced by an average score increase from 56.17 to 89.83 between pretest and posttest evaluations. Novelty This study pioneers the integration of a deep learning approach—characterized by interactive visualization, reflective feedback, and problem-solving mechanics—directly into a web-based fractional mathematics game. Implications Providing an interactive visual alternative minimizes cognitive load and empowers educators to implement student-centered digital learning, facilitating meaningful conceptual changes in elementary mathematics education. Highlights The ADDIE framework successfully yielded a highly validated culinary-themed digital learning platform for elementary mathematics. Incorporating reflective feedback and interactive visualization significantly advanced students' conceptual mastery of mathematical fractions. The applied technology minimizes cognitive load while shifting conventional pedagogical practices toward student-centered methodologies.
