Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the important role of parents in supporting children's development, education, and character formation at the elementary school level. In practice, parents still face various challenges in implementing appropriate parenting practices, building communication with children, assisting learning activities, and supervising children's use of technology. This activity aimed to improve parents' understanding of positive parenting practices that are appropriate to children's developmental needs. The activity was conducted at SDN Kesaud, Warung Jaud Urban Village, Kasemen District, Serang City, using a participatory approach. The target participants were parents or guardians and school representatives. The implementation consisted of several stages, including needs identification, coordination with the school, preparation of parenting materials, parenting socialization, discussion and question-and-answer sessions, and activity evaluation. The materials covered parenting styles, parent-child communication, learning assistance, character development, and supervision of children's technology use. The results showed that the participants demonstrated good enthusiasm and actively participated in the discussion sessions. The activity provided parents with additional knowledge regarding the importance of positive parenting, open communication, learning assistance, and parental involvement in children's development. The activity indicates that parenting socialization can serve as an effort to increase parents' awareness and capacity to support children's academic, social, emotional, and character development. Further activities involving continuous cooperation between schools and parents are needed to encourage the consistent implementation of positive parenting practices.
