Abstract

With the development of technology and the influence of popular music, Balinese Gamelan Joged Bumbung has undergone a significant transformation through the adoption of elements of koplo, a popular music genre known for its fast and energetic rhythms. This study analyzes in depth how koplo musical elements are integrated into the structure of Gamelan Joged Bumbung, resulting in changes in melody, harmony, rhythm, and even its social function. Furthermore, this article presents a comprehensive cultural analysis, exploring the driving factors behind this transformation, including globalization, mass media, and evolving audience preferences. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach within a framework of cultural studies and ethnomusicology. This approach was chosen to examine in depth the transformation of classical Gamelan Joged Bumbung into koplo music and to uncover the cultural and multicultural values contained within it.Gamelan Joged Bumbung Koplo is not simply a new form of entertainment, but rather a manifestation of cultural vitality capable of adapting and innovating without losing its essential identity. This transformation not only represents musical evolution but also reflects the dynamics of cultural identity and adaptation to modernity. This paper also highlights the multicultural values inherent in the Gamelan Joged Bumbung Koplo phenomenon, where local traditions meet global influences, creating space for cultural dialogue and artistic innovation.
