Abstract

Fire is a disaster that can occur in various places and times, either due to negligence, natural factors, or uncontrollable technical errors. This can certainly endanger and harm various parties. In an effort to reduce the impact of fire, the Government has issued regulations governing fire protection systems in buildings, according to the type and classification of buildings. This regulation is stated in the Regulation of the Minister of Public Works No. 26/PRT/M/2008 of 2008 concerning Technical Requirements for Fire Protection Systems in Buildings and the Environment.This research was conducted at the junior high-high school education building of Teuku Nyak Arif Fatih Bilingual School, which is one of the Cambridge international class private schools in Banda Aceh, using a semi-quantitative research method. Observations were conducted at the research location to identify the existing condition of the fire protection system and assess the level of safety in the junior high-high school education building of Teuku Nyak Arif Fatih Bilingual School based on applicable requirements and regulations. The results of the study showed that the fire protection system in the educational facility building of SMP-SMA Teuku Nyak Arif Fatih Bilingual School obtained an average score of 2.2 out of 3, indicating that most of the requirements in the Regulation of the Minister of Public Works No. 26/PRT/2008 of 2008 have been met. With the implementation of a fire protection system that is included in the appropriate category, the building safety level is at 87.65%.

Abstract

Meuraxa sub-district was one of the areas significantly affected by the 2004 Aceh tsunami. After the disaster, housing assistance was provided by variousinternationalagencies and organizations, in the same location. Initial observation indicate changes in the facades of the aid houses. Threfore, ths study aims to identify the factors that causedthe transformation of the facade and to determine the dominant elements that underwenttransformation in post-tsunami relief houses in Meuraxa Sub-district, Banda Aceh.The research uses a qualitative method, which data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The object of this study are post-tsunami relief houses donated by Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency (BRR)located in Deah Baro Village, Meuraxa Subdistrict, with ten houses as samples. The results show that the facades of post-tsunami relief houses funded by BRR in Meuraxa Sub-district have undergone transformationsin the facade elements including doors, windows, walls, floors, columns, roofs, and sun shading, with varying degrees of change namely major, medium or minor. Thesefindings are based on an analysis of each facade element observed in the ten sampledhouses.
