Abstract

Flood disasters in Aceh Tamiang Regency have led to a deterioration in the quality of community clean water sources due to sedimentation and biological contamination. This condition has disrupted the fulfillment of domestic water needs and increased the risk of waterborne diseases. The community service program “Tamiang Berseri” was designed to restore access to clean water through the implementation of water supply technologies based on multi-stage filtration and Reverse Osmosis (RO).The implementation methodology comprised the identification of affected water sources, well rehabilitation, installation of filtration systems, deployment of RO units, and operational training for local communities. The implemented system consisted of key components including a raw water storage tank, pumps, filtration units, RO membranes, and sterilization units. The treatment stages encompassed pre-treatment (filtration), the RO process, and post-treatment (sterilization and storage). The results demonstrated that the system effectively reduced Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels from 850–1,450 mg/L to 45–120 mg/L and successfully eliminated coliform bacterial contamination. The system achieved a production capacity of approximately 50–200 liters per hour and has been utilized by communities in several partner villages. Technical challenges encountered during installation included excessive pump pressure, which required adjustments to pipe connections and the use of stronger adhesive materials. Overall, the program successfully enhanced access to clean water and fostered community self-reliance in the sustainable management of water treatment systems.
