Abstract

This community service program was initiated in response to the low level of nutritional literacy among students at MA Al Ula Pamekasan, particularly regarding their understanding of the principles of balanced nutrition and their ability to read and interpret nutritional information on food labels, which can influence daily dietary habits. In light of these issues, this initiative aims to improve students’ nutritional literacy through a participatory service-learning approach. The activity involved 30 students and was conducted through stages of needs analysis, interactive lectures, group discussions, and practical exercises in creating simple meal plans. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test instruments supported by participatory observation. The results showed a significant improvement in nutrition literacy, with the average score increasing from 59 to 83. The most notable improvement was observed in the students’ ability to read and interpret nutrition information labels. Additionally, active participation in discussions and reflections indicated growing awareness of the importance of healthy eating habits. Thus, the implementation of service learning through contextual and practical activities is effective in improving nutrition literacy and fostering health awareness within the pesantren environment
