Abstract

This study aims to reinterpret QS al-‘Alaq [96]: 1–5 in the context of developing an Islamic website based on digital Qur’anic exegesis. The study employs a library research method using a maqāṣidī-contextual approach, supported by semantic analysis of key terms in the verses, namely iqra’, bismi rabbika, qalam, and ‘allama. The analysis consists of identifying textual and relational meanings, comparing classical and contemporary interpretations, identifying the maqāṣid values contained in the verses, and contextualizing these values within the digital environment. The findings indicate that QS al-‘Alaq [96]: 1–5 does not merely contain a command to read but also establishes an epistemological structure that connects the pursuit of knowledge with divine orientation, knowledge transmission, and education. Iqra’ is understood as a principle of literacy that includes the ability to critically read texts and reality; bismi rabbika as an ethical and theocentric principle in acquiring and disseminating information; qalam as a principle of knowledge documentation and transmission; and ‘allama as a principle of education and knowledge transformation. In the context of digital exegesis, these values can be applied through a website that emphasizes accessibility, source authority, content integrity, knowledge documentation, and educational functions. The reinterpretation does not seek to transform the textual meaning of the verses into literal technological concepts, but rather to actualize their epistemological and ethical values within the digital environment. This study proposes the Iqra’–Bismi Rabbika–Qalam–‘Allama framework as a normative foundation for developing digital Qur’anic exegesis websites that are accessible, source-transparent, epistemically responsible, and educationally oriented.
