Abstract

The KKN-T program, themed “Women-Friendly and Child-Caring Village” (DRPPA), was selected for Menden Village because it is important to strengthen the protection, participation, and empowerment of women and children at the village level. The primary objective is to provide better protection, strengthen participation, and enhance the capabilities of women and children in the community. This program was implemented using various methods, ranging from direct observation and interviews with residents to collaboration with the village government and the Department of Social Affairs, Women’s Empowerment, and Child Protection (Dinsos P3AKB). Activities also included educational outreach, the establishment of a WhatsApp-based “Women- and Child-Friendly Hub,” as well as tutoring and religious education programs. As a result of these efforts, the community gained a better understanding of the rights of women and children. They also became more vigilant against violence and child marriage. In addition, responsive communication and reporting channels have been established. This program has also encouraged residents to take a more active role in implementing social protection measures. Thus, these activities serve as a crucial first step toward creating a village that is safer, more inclusive, and more welcoming to women and children.
