Abstract

Coconut shell waste is a type of waste that is still commonly found in the community of Dukuh Barepan Kulon, Barepan Village, Cawas Subdistrict, Klaten Regency, but its utilization has not yet been optimized. This community service activity aims to provide the community with the knowledge and skills to utilize coconut shell waste to make briquettes while also promoting the development of local potential. The activity was carried out in a participatory manner by involving the community, particularly women from the PKK (Family Welfare Movement), through outreach sessions, demonstrations, hands-on training, and discussions. The briquette-making process includes charring the coconut shells, grinding the charcoal, mixing it with a binding agent, molding, and drying. The results of the activity showed that the community was able to understand the basic steps for processing coconut shell waste into briquettes and was directly involved in the production process. The activity also demonstrated that coconut shellswhich had not previously been fully utilized can be processed into a useful product serving as an alternative fuel. Although the charring and drying processes require time and precision, the methods used are relatively simple, and the raw materials are readily available in the local environment. This activity demonstrates that the utilization of coconut shell waste can serve as a waste management strategy while also opening opportunities for the development of products based on local potential that the community can continue to produce independently.
