Abstract

This study examines the role of digital literacy and critical thinking in enhancing learning outcomes in elementary education through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). A total of 15 national and international journal articles published between 2019 and 2025 were analyzed to identify research trends, the implementation of digital literacy, its relationship with critical thinking, and their impact on students’ learning outcomes. The findings reveal that digital literacy contributes significantly to students’ ability to access, evaluate, and utilize information effectively, while critical thinking supports problem-solving, analysis, and decision-making skills. The review also indicates a positive relationship between digital literacy and critical thinking, both of which contribute to improved academic achievement. Furthermore, instructional approaches such as Problem-Based Learning, inquiry-based learning, e-learning, and technology-enhanced learning environments were found to be effective in developing these competencies. Despite these benefits, challenges related to digital infrastructure, access to technology, and teachers’ digital competencies remain. Overall, digital literacy and critical thinking are essential competencies that support improved learning outcomes and prepare elementary school students for learning in the digital era.
