Abstract

This study examines the influence of online gambling and online lending on divorce rates among the urban Muslim community in Depok City and analyzes the phenomenon from the perspective of maqasid al-syariah. The rapid expansion of the digital economy has improved access to financial services but has also created social risks that threaten family resilience. A normative-juridical approach with qualitative descriptive analysis was employed using library research. Data were collected from statutory regulations, the Compilation of Islamic Law, reports of the Depok Religious Court, government publications, and relevant academic literature. The findings indicate that online gambling and online lending significantly contribute to marital conflicts by causing financial instability, loss of trust, psychological distress, and weakened family relationships. From the perspective of maqasid al-syariah, these practices contradict the protection of religion (hifz al-din), life (hifz al-nafs), intellect (hifz al-aql), lineage (hifz al-nasl), and property (hifz al-mal). The study concludes that digital economic vulnerabilities pose serious threats to family resilience and marital stability. Strengthening Islamic financial literacy, digital awareness, and collaboration among government institutions, religious leaders, and society is essential to reduce divorce associated with online gambling and online lending.
