Abstract

The continued use of Portland cement and natural aggregates in concrete can increase carbon emissions and deplete natural resources. This study aims to analyze the effects of using fly ash, lime powder, red brick waste, and bamboo fibers on the characteristics of mortar and concrete, as well as the economic value of concrete mixtures. The study was conducted experimentally using five variations of mortar mixtures and three variations of concrete mixtures. The parameters tested included the flow table, mortar compressive strength, mortar porosity, concrete compressive strength, concrete flexural strength, and material cost analysis. The results showed that the use of alternative materials reduced the flow table value due to an increase in the water-to-cement ratio. The mortar mixture with 1% bamboo fiber addition yielded the highest compressive strength of 19.1 MPa with a porosity of 1.93% at 28 days. For concrete, the BC-3 mixture showed an increase in compressive and flexural strength compared to BC-1 without increasing material costs. Economic analysis showed that the material costs for BC-1 and BC-3 were Rp59,889.00, which is 13.13% lower than those of normal concrete. The research results indicate that the combination of fly ash, lime powder, red brick waste, and bamboo fiber has the potential to produce more economical concrete with better mechanical properties than modified concrete mixtures without fiber, thereby supporting the development of more sustainable construction materials.
