Abstract

This study aims to improve badminton forehand stroke skills through the application of the drill method among eighth-grade students at MTs Miftahul Ulum Greged. This study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which consists of the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 28 eighth-grade students at MTs Miftahul Ulum Greged, consisting of 15 male students and 13 female students. The study was conducted in two cycles by applying the drill method in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning on badminton forehand strokes. Data were collected through observation, skill tests, and documentation. The research instruments included observation sheets for teacher and student activities and a forehand skill assessment rubric covering grip, stance, racket swing, shuttlecock contact, and follow-through. The data were analyzed quantitatively through the calculation of mean scores and learning mastery percentages, and qualitatively through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the application of the drill method improved students’ badminton forehand stroke skills from the pre-action stage to Cycle I and Cycle II. The improvement was indicated by an increase in the average skill scores and the percentage of students achieving the minimum mastery criterion (KKM) of ≥75. Thus, the drill method can be used as an alternative instructional method to improve badminton forehand stroke skills among eighth-grade students.
