Abstract

Pharmacists’ communication skills are soft skills that determine the quality of pharmaceutical services; however, research specifically examining their impact on patient perceptions at pharmacies in Bandung City remains quite limited. This study aims to analyze the impact of pharmacists’ communication skills on patients’ perceptions of service at pharmacies in Bandung City. A quantitative method was used, employing convenience sampling. Data were collected via a questionnaire distributed through Google Forms to 326 respondents, namely residents of Bandung City who had previously purchased medication at a pharmacy. The research instrument consisted of 12 questions on a 1–4 Likert scale measuring the variable of pharmacists’ communication skills (X) in relation to patients’ perceptions of pharmaceutical services at pharmacies (Y), and was analyzed using linear regression; this instrument was based on a previous study (Kim et al., 2020). The results of the validity test using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) showed that all items were valid with factor loadings ≥ 0.4, and the Cronbach’s Alpha reliability test indicated reliable values for all variables (Skills = 0.912; Perception = 0.782; Expectation = 0.637). The results of the regression analysis show an R-squared value of 22.7% (0.227), indicating that pharmacists’ communication skills have a positive and significant effect on patients’ perceptions. Therefore, improving pharmacists’ communication skills should be a primary focus of professional training and development to ensure better patient care.
