Abstract

This study aims to analyze the geometric forms found in the construction and surrounding area of the traditional house Bola Pa’borongan of the Kajang community in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi, and to examine its potential as a source of ethnomathematics-based learning in geometry instruction. The research employs a qualitative approach with an ethnographic method, using direct observation, interviews with traditional leaders, and document analysis related to the culture and architecture of the Kajang people. The results show that the Bola Pa’borongan house embodies various geometric concepts, including vertical, horizontal, parallel, and perpendicular lines; several types of angles; plane figures such as triangles, squares, rectangles, and trapezoids; solid figures such as rectangular prisms, pyramids, and cubes; as well as geometric transformations in the form of dilation and reflection that appear in the shape and proportions of the roof and the arrangement of architectural elements. These forms function not only structurally but also reflect philosophical values of simplicity, balance, and harmony with nature upheld by the Kajang community. The findings indicate that the Bola Pa’borongan traditional house has strong potential to be used as contextual learning media that helps students understand geometric concepts more meaningfully while fostering appreciation for local wisdom.
