Abstract

As a guide for Muslims, the Qur’an calls for creativity and innovation in the design and presentation of its printed editions (mushaf) to meet the diverse needs of the Muslim community. However, the commodification of the Qur’an is inextricably linked to the industrial and commercial sectors. The publisher of the Ummul Mukminin Qur’an is one such publisher that has adopted a "women-centric" theme. Verses pertaining to women are specially highlighted in pink, with the aim of making them easier for Muslim women to study and comprehend. Consequently, this study examines how the Ummul Mukminin publisher selects and presents these verses and explores the relationship between this practice and the commodification of the Qur’an. The researcher employs a qualitative approach—specifically library research—focusing on the Ummul Mukminin edition. Additionally, a stage of the thematic exegesis (tafsir tematik) method is utilized to select the relevant verses. The study is descriptive-analytical in nature. The findings are as follows: First, the commodification of the Qur’an is an inevitable reality, a fact that applies to the Ummul Mukminin edition; however, adherence to publishing standards remains essential, and in this regard, the Ummul Mukminin edition has obtained the necessary official certification (tashih). Second, regarding the selection of verses concerning women, the Ummul Mukminin edition prioritizes selection based on specific vocabulary or terms appearing in the text rather than focusing on the thematic content of the verses.
