Abstract

The development of social media presents both opportunities and challenges in the development of self-regulated learning among students. Social media supports independent learning through easy access to information, but it also has the potential to cause distractions due to non-educational content. This study aims to describe the use of social media in learning, explain its role in the development of self-regulated learning, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors at SMP Negeri 4 Klari. The study employs a qualitative approach using the case study method. The research informants consist of students, teachers, and the headteacher, selected through purposive sampling. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions with the aid of NVivo software. The results of the study indicate that YouTube, WhatsApp, TikTok, and Google are utilised as learning resources, discussion platforms, and sources of academic information. Social media also enhances students’ independence, learning motivation, and metacognitive abilities
