Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of social media in supporting Generation Z’s language creativity in Indonesian language learning and to identify the potential and challenges associated with its use. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach. The research subjects consisted of Generation Z senior high school students who had experience using social media for learning purposes. Data were collected through an online questionnaire. The quantitative data were analyzed using frequency distributions and mean scores. The results showed that students’ intensity of social media use was relatively high, with a mean score of 3.4. However, its utilization for Indonesian language learning remained limited. Students’ experience in creating Indonesian-language content obtained a mean score of 2.8, while their ability to develop language creativity obtained a mean score of 3.0. Students also demonstrated positive tendencies toward creating Indonesian-language content and sharing educational content, with mean scores of 3.2 and 3.1, respectively. In contrast, the perception that social media could accelerate their understanding of learning materials obtained a mean score of 2.3, while the perceived improvement in confidence in expressing ideas obtained a mean score of 2.4. Prolonged social media use was also identified as one of the challenges, with a mean score of 3.3. These findings indicate that social media has the potential to serve as a space for the production, expression, and sharing of linguistic ideas; however, it cannot yet be positioned as the primary learning medium. Optimizing its use requires targeted pedagogical strategies, teacher guidance, and strengthened digital literacy so that social media can more effectively support the language creativity and language skills of Generation Z.
