Abstract

Stunting is a multifactorial growth disorder associated with maternal knowledge, child feeding practices, sanitation and clean water, and infectious diseases. This study analyzed factors associated with stunting among children under five in the service area of Moanemani Community Health Center, Dogiyai Regency, Central Papua Province. A quantitative analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted in April–May 2026. The population comprised 160 mothers and children aged 1–5 years, with 115 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and anthropometric observation, then analyzed using Pearson Chi-Square and binary logistic regression. Stunting occurred in 29 children (25.2%), while 86 (74.8%) were not stunted. Maternal knowledge was significantly associated with stunting (χ²=28.791; p<0.001), as were feeding practices (χ²=43.806; p<0.001), sanitation and clean water (χ²=54.129; p<0.001), and infectious disease risk (χ²=39.840; p<0.001). The multivariable model was significant (p<0.001) and had a Nagelkerke R² of 0.773. Infectious disease was the most dominant factor, with OR=6.190 (p=0.031). Strengthening stunting prevention should integrate nutrition education, appropriate child feeding, WASH improvement, early management of infection, and routine growth monitoring.
