Abstract

Pneumonia is the leading cause of death among children under five in the world, with an estimated 739,000 deaths in 2023. The incidence of pneumonia for toddlers in the work area of the Cibeureum Health Center is one of the top ten diseases of toddlers. This community service program aims to improve the competence of 24 health cadres in the independent management of pneumonia for toddlers at home through complementary therapy in the form of peppermint oil inhalation and chest physiotherapy. The implementation method includes preparation, audiovisual-based education with teaching aids simulation, and pre-post test evaluation. The results showed a significant increase, namely the level of cadre knowledge increased with 23 people (96%) in the good category and 1 person (4%) in the adequate category, while the psychomotor of cadres increased overall by 100%, where all cadres, totaling 24 cadres, were able to practice actions independently very well. The novelty of this program lies in the integration of audiovisual media with guided direct practice using standardized clinical teaching aids. The practical implication of this activity is to strengthen the forefront of community health, especially in the health of toddlers, in early detection and early care of pneumonia for toddlers independently at home to prevent the severity of the disease and delays in referrals to health services.
