Abstract

Older adults are highly vulnerable to chronic health conditions and psychological distress, such as stress and loneliness, which diminish their independence. This community service program aimed to empower older members of an Islamic congregation in Sukapura, Bandung, and enhance their self-care capabilities through the Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) and Islamic mindfulness training. Utilizing an educational and training approach with a one-group pre-test/post-test design, the program was executed through a systematic framework: planning, counseling, SEFT and mindfulness training, mentoring, and sustainability maintenance, involving 42 active participants. Differences in participants' knowledge before and after the intervention were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. The results demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in participants' knowledge regarding SEFT and Islamic mindfulness. The high-knowledge category rose from 0% to 31%, while the low-knowledge category fell from 76.2% to 23.8%, yielding a mean knowledge increase of 23.97%. Furthermore, participants achieved autonomy in performing both techniques independently, reporting increased psychological calmness and reduced loneliness. In conclusion, SEFT and Islamic mindfulness training represent highly feasible, cost-effective, and spiritually congruent interventions for reinforcing self-care practices among older adults within faith-based communities.
