Abstract

This study examines the effect of principal servant leadership on teacher burnout during the transition to the Merdeka Curriculum in Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra. A quantitative correlational survey involved 318 elementary school teachers selected through proportional stratified random sampling. Instruments used were the Servant Leadership scale (Liden et al., 2008) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Educators Survey (Maslach & Jackson, 1981), both valid and reliable. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression with SPSS 26.0. Results showed that servant leadership had a negative and significant effect on teacher burnout (β = -0.678; p < 0.001). The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.155) indicated that servant leadership explained 15.5% of the variance in burnout. These findings confirm that higher perceptions of servant leadership are associated with lower emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment. The novelty lies in examining servant leadership within the Merdeka Curriculum transition context and measuring all three burnout dimensions simultaneously. The practical implication recommends strengthening principals' servant leadership competencies as an adaptive strategy for school management during curriculum reform.
