Abstract

This study aimed to strengthen 10th-grade students’ understanding of multiplication and division at MA Zainal Arifin by combining the Joyful Learning and Quantum Learning methods, using multiplication tables as the primary teaching aid. The research subjects consisted of mathematics teachers and 10th-grade students at the school, and the data were collected using descriptive qualitative methods through three approaches: directly observing the learning process, interviewing relevant parties, and documenting learning activities. After these two methods were applied in conjunction with the multiplication table, the students’ engagement, focus on learning, willingness to ask questions, and understanding of mathematical concepts appeared to improve. A more enjoyable learning environment made students more engaged, so that multiplication and division concepts, which were previously perceived as abstract, are now easier to grasp through concrete visualizations. These findings confirm that combining enjoyable learning methods with teaching aids is an effective way to strengthen students’ understanding of mathematical concepts, particularly in an Islamic boarding school setting such as MA Zainal Arifin. The novelty of this study lies in the simultaneous integration of two active learning methods using multiplication table teaching aids within the context of Islamic boarding school education, which is characterized by limited study time. This combination has been relatively rarely examined in previous research.
