Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of Islamic microfinance as an instrument in encouraging the empowerment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in disadvantaged areas. Using qualitative methods and a case study approach, this study collected data through in-depth interviews with MSME actors, managers of Islamic financial institutions, and other stakeholders involved in the financing ecosystem. The results of the study indicate that Islamic microfinance provides more inclusive access for MSME actors, enabling them to develop their businesses sustainably. In addition, this financing is recognized as being able to increase productivity capacity and expand marketing networks. However, this study also identified challenges, such as lack of knowledge about financial management and marketing, which hinder the effectiveness of the program. Therefore, an integrated mentoring and training program is needed to strengthen the capacity of MSME actors in utilizing this financing. These findings provide valuable insights for policy makers and financial institutions to design more effective financing programs based on the specific needs of MSME actors in disadvantaged areas. This study is expected to be a reference for further studies on Islamic financial management and MSME development in Indonesia.
