Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) represents a government initiative designed to support the nutritional needs of students while contributing to improvements in learning quality at the elementary school level. Evaluating the implementation of this program in schools is important to understand how it operates in practice and to identify factors that influence its effectiveness. This study aimed to examine the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG), including the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting its implementation in elementary schools in Parepare City. A qualitative approach with a descriptive method was employed in this study, which was conducted at UPTD SD Negeri 5 Parepare and UPTD SD Negeri 77 Parepare. Informants were selected purposively and involved school principals, teachers, and students participating in the program. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation, followed by thematic analysis using MAXQDA software. The findings indicate that the implementation of the MBG program has generally progressed well through organized meal distribution, active teacher involvement, and coordination between schools and food providers. The program was also associated with improved student focus and greater enthusiasm for classroom learning. Supporting factors included communication, collaboration, food hygiene, and student acceptance, while menu variation and delays in meal distribution remained key challenges. These findings highlight the need to strengthen coordination and improve menu management to optimize program implementation.
