Abstract

A work chart is an analytical tool used to understand work activities and support work improvement to increase efficiency and productivity. A workstation chart analyzes activities performed at a single workstation, while a left-hand and right-hand process chart analyzes both hand movements during assembly. Proper task allocation between the hands and appropriate component placement on the worktable can make assembly faster, more efficient, and ergonomic. This study aims to determine the standard time for each work element in assembling an electrical plug. The research used direct time measurement of manual assembly involving five components: the plug body, plug cover, screws, cable clamp, and cable. The respondents were students of the Industrial Engineering Study Program at Universitas Tarumanagara. The results identified 30 work elements in the assembly process. The longest element was installing screw 3, requiring 5 seconds, while most of the shortest elements required 0.5 seconds. The total cycle time was 32.5 seconds. After considering adjustment factors based on skill, effort, working conditions, and consistency, the normal time was 28.83 seconds. Furthermore, allowances for personal needs, fatigue, environmental conditions, physical effort, working posture, concentration, and unavoidable delays were incorporated. Based on these factors, the standard time for the electrical plug assembly process was 32.15 seconds, providing a reference for evaluating assembly performance and improving work methods and workstation efficiency in future assembly operations and productivity.
