Abstract

Investment casting requires high-quality wax patterns to achieve accurate geometry and acceptable surface finish. RTV silicone rubber molds offer a flexible, reusable, and cost-effective alternative to metallic molds, particularly for small-batch production. This study evaluated the effects of stirring speed and silicone-to-catalyst ratio on RTV silicone rubber mold quality for wax-pattern applications. RTV-52 silicone rubber was mixed with RTV Blue catalyst at ratios of 35:1 to 40:1 and stirred at 50, 100, and 200 rpm using a custom DC-motor stirring device. Mold quality was assessed through catalyst distribution, surface appearance, bubble formation, agglomeration, and curing time. Within the investigated conditions, higher stirring speeds were associated with more uniform visual catalyst distribution and shorter curing time. Among the tested combinations, the 38:1 ratio at 200 rpm produced the most favorable observed performance at 200 rpm producing approximately 90% visually catalyst distribution, smooth surface quality, minimal bubbles, and complete curing within two hours.
