Abstract

The construction of multi-story buildings on soft soil often faces technical challenges due to low soil bearing capacity and significant settlement potential. This study aims to analyze and compare the bearing capacity and settlement of two types of deep foundations, namely bored pile and driven pile foundations. The object of this research is the Ibrahim Tower Building Construction Project at Roemani Muhammadiyah Hospital Semarang, with soil data obtained from the Standard Penetration Test (N-SPT) at depths up to 14 meters. The analysis was conducted through two approaches. The first approach is the manual calculation method using several well-known theories in geotechnical engineering, namely the Meyerhof and Reese & Wright methods for bearing capacity analysis, and the Poulos & Davis method for settlement analysis. The second approach is the numerical method utilizing Plaxis 2D and All Pile software to model soil and foundation behavior computationally. The superstructure load to be received by the foundation was obtained from building structure modeling using ETABS software. The results show that the allowable bearing capacity for a single bored pile ranges from 1537 kN to 1962 kN, while for a single driven pile ranges from 1460 kN to 1869 kN. These values indicate that the bearing capacity of bored piles tends to be higher compared to driven piles at the same depth. In terms of settlement, the analysis results show that the maximum total settlement occurs in the driven pile group, approximately 2.8 cm to 2.9 cm. This value is still far below the allowable settlement limit of 6 cm, so both types of foundations are declared safe for use. Furthermore, the difference between manual and numerical calculation results is relatively small, indicating that both methods can complement each other in the foundation planning process.
