Abstract

Blood pressure is a vital parameter for diagnosing and monitoring cardiovascular conditions; therefore, the accuracy of digital blood pressure monitors (NIBP) must be maintained through periodic calibration using standard calibrators. However, commercial calibrators are relatively expensive and difficult to access, particularly for educational laboratories and resource-limited healthcare facilities. This study aimed to design, construct, and test the performance of an NIBP calibrator for pediatric and adult monitors—based on the STM32F407VGT6 microcontroller—capable of generating controlled blood pressure and heart rate simulations. The research methodology involved hardware and software design, circuit voltage measurement point testing, and a comparative performance test against both the developed NIBP simulator and a commercial NIBP simulator (used as a reference). Voltage test results aligned with component datasheet specifications. Performance testing involved five repetitions for systolic and diastolic parameters, comparing the developed calibrator with the commercial one. Results showed that all systolic and diastolic measurements fell within tolerance limits relative to standard settings, with a maximum average deviation of 2.2 mmHg. In the comparative test, all measurement points met the ±5 mmHg tolerance; the largest deviation was 5 mmHg (diastolic parameter at the highest pressure point of 100 mmHg), placing it exactly at the tolerance limit.
