Abstract

Palm oil-based flexible polyurethane foam has the potential to serve as a more environmentally friendly alternative material; however, further development is needed to meet consumer needs and compete with commercial products. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of palm oil-based flexible polyurethane foam using the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method. The QFD analysis identified the foam’s ability to return to its original shape after deformation and resistance to pressure as the highest-priority consumer needs. These findings indicate that consumers expect foam with good elasticity, load-bearing capacity, and durability. The optimization of product formulation was identified as the primary technical strategy for addressing these consumer needs and improving the physical and mechanical properties of the foam. Therefore, formulation optimization is essential for enhancing the quality and competitiveness of palm oil-based flexible polyurethane foam.
