Abstract

Submersible pumps transfer fluids by increasing pressure. This study aimed to analyze how impeller blade shape, blade number, and rotational speed affect the flow rate of a homemade submersible pump prototype. A 12 V, 240 W type 775 DC motor drove the pump. Experimental tests were conducted using two impeller blade configurations, namely straight and curved blades, with a radius of 26 mm and a PVC thickness of 17 mm. The number of blades was varied at 4, 6, and 8, while the motor speed was set at 9000, 10000, and 11000 rpm. We measured flow rate at heads of 1.5, 2, and 2.5 m using a volumetric collection method and a flow meter. The results showed that impeller shape, blade number, and rotational speed affected the flow rate. At a 1.5 m head, the highest flow rate was 474.89 mL/s using Impeller I with 8 blades at 11000 rpm. At a 2.5 m head, the highest flow rate was 172.14 mL/s using Impeller I with 4 blades at 9000 rpm.
