Abstract

This study evaluated mental health awareness among Generation Z (1997–2012) and Millennials (1981–1996) through a social psychology perspective. The study employed a qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews with six participants: three university students aged 19–22 and three employees aged 31–38. Data were analyzed using Reflexive Thematic Analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2022). The study constructed six thematic categories: conceptual constructions of mental health, awareness of individual psychological conditions, the role of social media, social support networks, responsiveness to professional support services, and intergenerational variability in awareness. The findings revealed that Generation Z demonstrated higher mental health literacy, greater openness, and a more proactive help-seeking orientation than Millennials. Nevertheless, both groups exhibited positive improvements in mental health awareness. This study contributes to strengthening the social psychological conceptual framework related to the dynamics of mental health literacy.
