Abstract

This study aimed to determine the optimum proportion of the combination of tween 80, span 80, and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) which produces parijoto fruit extract cream with the most optimum physical properties and stability and the effect of the combination of tween 80 span 80 and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) on the SPF value of parijoto fruit extract cream in activity as a sunscreen. In this study, using Simplex Lattice Design for determining the formula by trial and error (trial and error). Optimization parameters tested include spreadability, adhesion, viscosity, and pH. Optimum formula verification was continued using statistical analysis with the T-test. The optimum formula was then tested for the SPF value using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The optimization results showed that the optimum formula was obtained using tween 80 of 8.525 grams, span 80 of 1.375 grams, and VCO of 0.100 grams. The interaction of these three components affected the physical properties of the preparation and the resulting SPF value. The SPF value of the ethyl acetate fraction of parijoto fruit was 4.84 which was categorized as moderate protection. Keywords: cream; parijoto fruit; sunscreen
