Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a serious chronic disease that happens because the pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin or the body can't effectively use the insulin it produces. So, the goal of this study was to find out the risk factors for the occurrence of Diabetes Mellitus in the working area of Batulappa Health Center, Pinrang Regency. This study used a case-control design with a sample size of 106 diabetes patients, consisting of 53 case groups (diabetes mellitus) and 53 control groups (non-diabetes mellitus), selected through random sampling and gender matching. The data was collected through questionnaire interviews. Data analysis was done univariately and bivariately. The results showed that physical activity (p=0.566; OR=1.393; 95% CI: 0.448-4.331), age (p=0.034; OR=2.842; 95% CI: 1.058-7.633), and genetics (p=0.000; OR=73.271; 95% CI: 9.407-570.754). The conclusion of this study shows that physical activity is a risk factor but not a significant one, while age and genetics are significant risk factors for the occurrence of diabetes.
